Practicing the Piano

This past summer has been a very busy one for me. A trip to Europe, redecorating my studio, new equipment and apps, hiring new teachers and implementing new classes and scheduling. My own practicing has fallen by the wayside....But the good news is it really forced me to identify more with my own students who find it difficult to find time and motivation to practice. Most of my students have the added challenge of not having someone at home to help them when they are stuck! I truly believe incorporating practice time into their lessons will go a long way to help some of these challenges. But it won't create more time for them at home. I am always telling my students not to wait until they have a free afternoon or evening to practice, but rather, fit in 5 or 10 minutes here and there. It was time for me to practice what I preach and practice I did! I was able to finally learn a Brahms Intermezzo I have always loved. It was a new experience for me to learn this piece playing only 20 minutes a day! That was all the time I had each evening before I went to bed. I can't wait to share this story with my students and remind them that they can achieve many goals with little baby steps each day!
